This picture of invader from Facebook .

Anyone got any photos from Whitchurch A/N , or security footage from the venue that it can be compared with , it's a pretty distinct hairline , long shot I know but it's somewhere to start.

Oh, my God! Unbelievable. Ted, you must be in shock. I hope you recover quickly from the trauma of this most personal of violations.

As for the records, it’s easy to speculate, and perhaps one shouldn’t, but my first thought is there’s someone out there on the Northern scene arranging the sort of targeted break-ins normally associated with high-profile footballers.

Utter low life.

A record list of this magnitude surely can't stay under the radar. Sincerely hope they get caught quickly and the records returned.

It’s definitely not the work of your ordinary Cat Burgular as the records were the target.

I should imagine it’s somebody who knows of Ted,knows of Ted’s wares, and worst of all, knows where he resides...

Hope Ted recovers soon...👍

Just read this and sorry to hear Ted. This is a personal invasion of your property and stolen a life time of collecting records. You have given so much pleasure to us all of your records and the tunes you had. Just hope they are caught, as these are going to be hard to move or be played out.

Absolute scum.

Stolen after the NOTTINGHAM Alldayer (Rose & Crown) Yesterday Sunday 26th February.

Photo (colourised by Tom Romark & from Teds own doorbell camera) attached of one of the suspects.

Obviously anyone with any suspicion who this person might be should contact the rozzers or Ted.

This is despicable and hope the culprits are caught. Hope your OK Ted .I'm sure the northern soul dealers and collectors will have there eyes open for any turning up and they get what's coming to them . Sad news

Really devastating news. :(

Just thinking - did Kitch not have some 45s lifted from a Nottingham venue a few years back? Not sure if he ever got them back.

“Specifically demanding the record boxes he took tonight”??  Hopefully the promotors would have seen these and be able to identify them??

So, is it fair to conclude the culprits were at the venue, or were being instructed/tipped off, by one or more of the attendees?  CCTV from the venue, or around the venue, might help pinpoint the culprits if they were in attendance.  Unless specifically stolen to order, with them going into a collection never to resurface, these will be far too hot to handle and suspicions quickly raised. I can't see a dealer risking their reputation, especially if approached by a seller who does not have a history/pedigree on the scene.  If the culprits were hoping for a quick cash turnaround, then when the penny drops how difficult these records will be to offload (the penny might already have dropped), they may well regret their actions.  They will regret their actions even more when (as they will be) they are caught, exposed, jailed and are subjected to soulie justice.

I have no doubt these people will be caught, either by virtue or greed, stupidity or by being identified.  I am hopeful that the cops will treat this with the seriousness it deserves, if for no other reason than due to the value of records stolen.

For the aforementioned reasons I am hopeful that you'll get these back Ted, and if the culprits have any sense they will find a way of returning them, or getting them to the police, before it's too late.

Everyone be aware!!!!

Ted Massey was apparently followed home after Whitchurch all nighter at the weekend. He was robbed by two people who took that nights box of discs!!!

If you’re offered or see ‘unusual’ sales, or have any knowledge about the people concerned....

REPORT IT!!!! SOULIES STICK TOGETHER!

One of the most disturbing and horrible stories I've heard for some time, and we've not been short of those recently.

First things first - here's hoping Ted is physically unharmed. That's at least something to be grateful for if true.

The above posts explain the problems of offloading such precious items very well, and things don't look promising for the culprits - something else to give us all hope.

In future anyone out and about with valuable records, especially those headlining at an event, will have to be even more security conscious. Punters can keep an eye out for suspicious types. Promoters also will have to take such things into account.

Let's look out for each other and keep on keeping on enjoying the music and the friendships it creates.

This is something that we all dread happening and I hope justice is served up to these scumbags. Trying to get the police to understand that a hundred count box could be worth more than £100,000 is a tricky task in its self (I know from experience). Also, as with other great artwork thefts that would seem impossible to sell on, there is always someone who is willing to take  a chance just to keep them locked away and out of sight for their own personal gratification.

Maybe a "job" granted by someone else?! So no Soulies on the picture....

  • Popular Post

I hate to even proffer this solution but a sizeable reward for safe return may be a sensible option if indeed the thieving ***** didn't steal to order and thought they could offload easily!

Worst case if this is true is the records get dumped - so worth a try???????

My heart goes out to Ted - a terrible thing to happen and distressing on many levels.

It is every collectors worst nightmare.  The years of toil to buy records that rarely or indeed if ever come to market and to have this happen  is sickening.

I really makes you wonder if Djing and putting yourself out there is really worth it.  With more and more coming to the scene and very few with the mentality we have this could become more commonplace.

Really feel for Ted and I hope his records are returned.  I also hope one of ours gets the scum first before the police.

One thing is certain, records like this cannot be brought to market publicly, not without raising suspicion.

Firstly, Teds well being and safety are the most important thing here, as such I send Ted my best wishes and a speedy recovery from what must have been an horrendous experience.

The worrying thing about this incident is that whichever angle you look at it from, it all leads back to someone who, knows the scene & knows Ted's collection.

I doubt very much that it was organised yesterday at the gig but more than likely planned over a few weeks, therefore I think the perpetrator or perpetrators, know exactly where and how to move them on. The risks taken in obtaining the records would surely indicate that the motive is for financial gain. Although anyone with an understanding of the scene must know they cant be sold as a collection in an open market.

If they are going into a private collection what's the point ? they can never be shown to anyone and they cant be played out.

The idea mooted by a previous poster about offering a reward for "safe return" is all well and good but it puts every collection and Dj in the country in jeopardy.

I know there is never ever such thing as a victimless crime, but it really takes a special kind of low life to steal or harm someone from your own community and I hope that they are caught quickly and dealt with severely.

JF

Firstly heart goes out to ted, scum entering your personal space is dispicable, Im not a collector so can someone enlighten me if insurance would cover the loss? I'm fully aware that would not cover the heartbreaking loss of a lifetime of collecting but would be better than nothing.

my heart goes out to Ted , he dj'ed after me at Whitchurch all niter and was just off the scale.

anyone to do this to anyone is despicable

hope they are returned asap

Yes insurance is possible via good quality contents policies (in house only normally) . Many normal policies won’t specifically cover especially if an online only provider. Some also cover a reduced amount outside the house. Also DJs musicians etc can add records to their equipment cover policies. Well worth speaking to a good broker. I’ve had mine specifically included on my contents policy (through different providers) for over ten years.

Terrible news Ted. Thinking of you at this awful time. The photo is clear enough for the scumbag to be identified. The records are too prominent to move on so there’s a good chance they can be recovered. Fingers crossed there’s a positive outcome to this nasty business.

Really sorry to hear this and hope Ted is OK and unhurt

Ted - priority first hope you’re OK -

The rose and crown have cctv exterior of the building - and like most pubs today will hopefully have internal cameras. I don’t think they were there too obvious even for a pill head .

The bloke had a t shirt on which means he traveled there in a car / van - if you’re road is anything like mine every other property has external cameras - I am sure the old bill are on it

You could try reward £5k for info and return - that may lead to the person or people or records

who ever did it does not know the scene that well or who they stole off - as I would have gone for the big oldies box - worth far more and easier to get rid

could be the guy is just a pinhead junkie who owes money and getting the two boxs makes it good - there not into NS but there’s someone behind it 🤔 worst thing even if he gets caught he ain’t going to say anything as he’ll be more scared of the person behind it

what he did is aggravated burglary - that’s 3 years the only good thing was he didn’t hurt Ted.

A lot of who what and where’s there - just saying it as I see it.

PS - looks like they have ginger hair - anyone googled the picture quite a few who look similar 🤔🤔

Absolutely my thoughts and, having concurred earlier today, this stolen hoard will be so hot, these imbeciles might find theirselves being pursued not just by the likes of us, but by real villains, which will be extremely nasty for them, a reward may well be an even bigger inducement...their lives wont be worth living anyway if they attempt to fence them....now the media has got the story, theres nowhere for them to run.

Don’t know Ted at all but I hope he is ok and that his records are returned to him ASAP and in the same condition they were when taken, hopefully the scumbags who stole them will be caught and dealt with accordingly, hopefully this was a one off and that DJ’s aren’t going to have to start looking over their shoulder when arriving home to make sure they haven’t been followed by some arsehole intent on stealing their collection, we don’t need this sort of thing happening on the Soul scene or anywhere else.

Sounds like a hostage and ransom situation to me,cheeky bastards are gonna be pushing a ransom note through the door for a substantial amount of money or the records die!

scumbags!!!

Not good at all that. Hope he recovers from this, aggressive entry to his house, that's heavy sentencing. They could have done much worse.

That guy looks ginger, pony tail maybe or thickly crimped/curly hair

as for the tattoo doesn't it look about like the outline of a Wolves FC  badge, maybe removed or covered over  for the robbery?

Now that it's been on the BBC all kinds of scumbags will looking at the prices and be saying how f*cking much, and I can see similar crimes unfortunately, maybe people out to  tighten up security for a little while.

Watch Auction Rooms for any movement as.well, I know boxes have been nicked in recent years at the odd nights but this surely  is a first. And yep a high level well planned robbery, not just random.

Any idea on the accents.amd descriptions of the other rats

So very sorry to hear this news and send my best wishes to Ted.

Hopefully people that were at the venue maybe able to look back a any photographs that they have taken and look at the background faces and these oxygen thieves can be caught.

Been struggling to put into words my thoughts on this, it must have been an horrendous ordeal for Ted to endure, thankfully he was not hurt. Hoping that they catch the culprits and the records are returned to their rightful owner as soon as possible.

I have a lot of respect for Ted and others with collections of this calibre, their willingness to bring them out and play them for all of us to enjoy at functions up and down the country so that we can get to hear and dance to these wonderful tunes on their original format.

If Teds records are to be recovered it will happen because of the support of the NS fraternity , keeping ears close to the ground and willing to tell it like it is if they hear anything hopefully will lead to a positive result for Ted, The Police I’m sorry to say are useless and clueless with anything these days, you have got to do the job for them or it doesn’t get done. I had my record box 300 plus singles in it stolen from my car about 27 years ago, Luckily I sent word out that if they had robbed the box being opportunist thieves and returned them I would understand if they didn’t I would never stop looking for them ,and justice would be done, they appeared with apologies and with a bonus, otherwise they would have probably ending up being frisbees or sold to some pretend DJ, It’s a sickening blow when this happens when your young but it’s a lot worse when your 72 years of age , good luck Ted if I hear anything you will be the first to know

Is anybody on here from Sutton Coldfield / Birmingham area?

Are you in any community/buy & sell type of groups on Facebook, can you share the picture from the doorbell camera into them groups?  We need to get this image out to the wider world and not just the soul scene.

Might be worth doing Nottingham groups too?

Absolute shocker on all levels. Can only hope that they get back to Ted intact and that some form of justice is served on these semi-informed shits.

Good call 👍 would be handy if BBC Midlands stuck it on there local news clip 🤔 that would nail them

Hi Ted

i had all my records stolen at a "Rhyl" all dayer in fact it was one of the catalysts for me leaving the scene.

i did manage to get them back after giving a cast iron guarantee that they would not be prosecuted and it was all arranged through a third party.

It broke my heart and cost me about 25% of what the box of 150 records was worth but what is the alternative to see your years of toil and collecting go down the drain.

I funded it by selling 4 or 5 of my top tunes to save the rest, I still don't know to this day who was behind it but the mental turmoil between right and wrong tore me up and still does to this day.

i sincerely hope you have a happy outcome but somebody knows and an offer like mine however repugnant to some might just work.
